A question has arisen about imprimatur on our books. When the imprimatur was published in the original, it is also published in the reprint. However, several kinds of books do not require that the imprimatur be printed in the book. First of all, when the Bishop of a diocese publishes a book, he does not need to have an imprimatur, because he is the authority which would issue the approval of a book for publication. Secondly, prior to the 1917 Code of Canon Law, imprimaturs were required, but it was not required for them to print the imprimatur in the book. We are zealous to make sure that any book we offer for sale here was duly approved by the authorities of the Catholic Church.
